Cute barely covers Ruby, the newest porcine resident! This 6-week-old piglet is a personable, sassy little lady whose fate wasn't so nice.Ruby is a heritage breed of pig. Had she been born healthy, instead of a runt, she would have run free on pasture and grazed fresh grass.
And at the young age of 6-mos-old, she would have been sent to the slaughterhouse. For Ruby, living on a "humane" farm still meant an untimely death. A visitor to the farm offered to take the sickly pig off the farm's hands. They agreed and Ruby was on the road to recovery!
Now Ruby will live out her life in peace and comfort, the way all beings should. Think Ruby's pretty cute? You can help her out by going vegan!

Gilbert
Gilbert is a 9-yr-old goat rescued from certain death. An animal control officer found him hogtied in the back of a pick-up truck...the main course of a backyard BBQ. He was confiscated and Animal Place gladly took him in.

Protest Live Birth Exhibits at State Fair
On Tuesday, July 27th, a heavily pregnant dairy cow was gunned down at the California State Fair. The cow had been part of the live birth exhibit, in which heavily pregnant animals are put on display to give birth. Before the fair had opened, one of the cows became frightened and initiated an escape. The veterinarians on-site decided the best course of action, after they failed to lock her up safely, was to chase her down with an SUV and then shoot her 11 times, killing her and her calf.
If you are in California, please email Norbert Bartosik, the State Fair manager and ask him to eliminate the live birth exhibits at the fair.
