About
Animal Place

Since 1989, Animal Place has provided safe refuge to hundreds of abused farmed animals and education to thousands of visitors. In 2010 it moved from Vacaville to a 600-acre facility in Grass Valley, CA. The former sanctuary site was converted to Rescue Ranch, a farmed animal rescue and placement center. Animal Place rescues animals people typically eat ? cows, pigs, chickens, sheep, turkeys, goats and rabbits. The animals who come to Animal Place will remain at the sanctuary for their entire lives. In addition to sanctuary, Animal Place offers guided and self-guided farm tours, volunteer opportunities, internships, chicken care classes and workshops. A 3-acre sustainable, community, vegan garden is being prepared without the use of manure, blood & bone meal, and other animal products. We will be a model of sustainable farming without the use of animal inputs.

Animal Place Sanctuary - Grass Valley, CA

Oak knolls, gently sloping hills, beautiful meadows and irrigated pastures make Animal Place?s 600-acre sanctuary in the Sierra foothills a true safe haven. All the animals at Animal Place sanctuary are permanent residents, getting an opportunity to grow old.

Animals arrive from myriad sources ? factory farms, slaughterhouses, research facilities, and neglect or cruelty cases. All animals find a haven where all their needs are met and their individual quirks respected

There are hundreds of animals at the sanctuary and it is open to the public for tours.

Animal Place's Rescue Ranch - Vacaville, CA

Animal Place's Rescue is located on the 60-acres that has been home to the sanctuary for 21 years. Animals arrive at Rescue Ranch, receive veterinary care and socialization, then are placed into permanent homes. This innovative rescue program focuses on the placement of farmed animals, particularly hens from the egg industry. You can read more about Rescue Ranch here.

Advocacy

Providing sanctuary and placing animals into permanent homes are two ways Animal Place serves animals. The most important is through education and advocacy. We promote veganism as the most compassionate act one can take to help animals.

Tours, volunteer workshops, internships, cooking classes, veggie clubs are a few ways we interact with the public and invite them to meet the animals at the sanctuary.

We table at different events and reach thousands annually with our message of veganism and compassion for all life.

In addition to outreach, we produce educational materials, publications, films/videos and other material to help spread the word.
