Animal Care Internship

The animal care internship is a great opportunity to work directly with farm animals in a sanctuary setting. This is a physically demanding position, so you must be in good physical health to handle the labor. In your first week you will learn routine animal care, such as feeds and cleaning. You will also work directly with caregivers weekly to assist in daily medication and proper animal handling.  You should be comfortable working individually and on a group level. You should also be comfortable communicating any questions with your supervisor. This sanctuary internship is great for the individual who wants that hands-on experience with farm animals!

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Feeding animals
  • Cleaning and maintaining sleeping quarters, pasture, sanctuary grounds
  • Helping with weekly animal health checks as needed
  • Sorting and pulling produce for the animals
  • Misc. work (filing paper, laundry, animal socialization, filling holes, cob- webbing, bottle feeding babies as needed)
  • Interns are assigned evening shelter security shifts, maximum of 3 per week
  • Assisting with other duties as needed (tabling at events when available, helping with on-site events) Qualifications:
  • Not afraid to get dirty
  • Comfortable working individually
  • Physically able to lift at least 40 lbs, and perform other physically demanding chores
  • Reliable, dependable, punctual
  • Comfortable communicating with senior staff
  • Ability to work in all weather conditions including consistent rain in the winter and up to 105 in the summer.  (We occasionally have hail and snow)
  • 40 volunteer hours a week for a minimum of 8 weeks
  • Interest and commitment to working for farmed animals
