Move Accomplished!
Well-oiled machine barely covers it. The move of an ENTIRE sanctuary, from animals to staff, went more smoothly than a well-oiled machine.
Staff started early, corralling the potbellied pigs into crates and then into a volunteer's stock trailer. The first group of stock trailers and volunteers arrived a 8 am. The big pigs were lured into stock trailers with bits of apple and tortillas. Volunteers carefully picked up chickens, placing them into dog crates.
By 9:30 am, the first group of stock trailers had left for Grass Valley. And by 10 am, the
next round of trailers and volunteers arrived. More pigs were loaded and the rabbits were placed into individual carriers. It took a bit longer than we had hoped and so there was a little congestion on the one-lane country road leading to the property. A bit of coordination cleared up the problem and the trailers were out by 12:30 pm.
The final group of trailers loaded up on sheep, goats and three of the cattle and were on the road by 2:30 pm.
Everyone drove slowly, handling all the animals with care and respect.
Unloading went even quicker - animals disembarking with ease into their new pastures.
We could not have done it without the support of our donors, volunteers and staff. Thank you so much! So many of you came through and sponsored the move of an animal. You raised thousands of dollars and made this move possible!
But we still need your support. We will be expanding our rescue and education efforts. Donate today!
