Animal Care Internship

Benefits:

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Feeding animals
  • Cleaning and maintaining sleeping quarters, pasture, sanctuary grounds
  • Assisting with daily medications
  • Helping with animal health checks
  • Sorting and pulling produce for the animals
  • Misc. office work (mailings, filing, updating animal database)
  • Interns are assigned evening shelter security shifts, maximum of 3 per week
  • Assisting with other duties as needed (rescues, volunteer events, etc)

Qualifications:

  • Interest and commitment to working for farmed animals.
  • 40 hours a week for a minimum of 4 weeks, max of 8.
  • Ability to work in all weather conditions.
  • Physically able to lift at least 40 lbs, and perform other physically demanding chores
  • Reliable
  • Comfortable working individually and in a group
Advocacy and Outreach

  • Intimate knowledge of rescued animals and their stories
  • Learning the daily operations of a sanctuary for farmed animals
  • Educating adults and children about veganism, farmed animal behavior and farming

Duties & Responsibilities (note: this is not an inclusive list nor is any one intern responsible for ALL items listed):

  • Running guided tours
  • Speaking at schools
  • Performing home inspections for adopters
  • Manage and update adopter database
  • Assisting in social media promotion
  • Writing articles for magazine or outreach

Qualifications:

  • Interest and commitment to advocating on behalf of farmed animals
  • Good public speaking skills
  • Ability to manage a project individually and effectively
  • If interested in speaking at schools, a background in working with children or education is suggested but not required
  • Comfortable with MS Word and Excel
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work with others
