I hope you practice social distancing and stay safe, during this Covid-19 pandemic.
Please know that the animals here continue to receive top-notch care from our dedicated caregivers. No animal goes without food, clean water, or fresh bedding at the sanctuary. You make that possible.
We continue to monitor the pandemic and its impact on our supporters, community, staff, and volunteers.
I want to re-share with you our safety response at the sanctuary.
Keep the public safe: All self-guided, guided, and private tours have ceased until further notice. This includes our Guest House, and our Rescue & Adoption Center. Only deliveries of essential goods are permitted. Our Berkeley brick and mortar grocery store Vegan Republic is open for pick-up and delivery orders only.
Keep staff and volunteers safe: Only essential staff are onsite to provide care to the animals and support the sanctuary. Remaining staff work remotely and practice social distancing to keep themselves, their families, and their community safe. Volunteers are no longer permitted onsite.
We are fortunate to have five caregivers who live and work at the sanctuary.
Keep the animals safe: The animals continue to have all their needs met, but your support is needed more than ever to keep the animals fed and cared for.
All of us here appreciate your support and care about you. You provide financial aid to the animals here in times of fortune and times of disaster. Please take care of yourself. Please keep your community safe. This is not over, and all of us need to prepare for the long haul.
We hope to keep you connected to the wonderful animals during this unstable time.
With love and compassion,
Kim Sturla
Executive Director

I applied online to adopt 2 hens and have not heard from anyone.
Are you still having the adoption day since you are closed?
I want to provide a good home to them.
Thank you
Hi Sharon, we do not currently have hens available for adoption. We will keep your application on hand for our next rescue. The rescue date is to be determined due to covid-19. Thank you for your interest in adopting!
I totally understand that your facility is closed at this time due to covid precautions. But I have to ask, is there any inkling of a time you might reopen yet? Thank you.
Hi Cheryl! Thanks for asking. We miss all of our visitors! Right now we are monitoring the situation, and we do not have a date in mind. Hopefully, we will have a better idea once more people are able to get vaccinated.
Hello,
