Job Title: Animal Care Assistant

Job Status: Full-Time, Grass Valley

Immediate Supervisor: Animal Care Director

Job Description: Full-Time Animal Care Assistants are responsible for the daily cleaning and maintaining of animal living quarters, completing animal feeding shifts, assisting caregivers with basic medical care for the 400+ animal residents, as well as many miscellaneous tasks such as laundry, restocking supplies, grooming animals, and cleaning vehicles. Qualifications
• Passionate about working for and with farmed animals
• Keen interest in the animal welfare/rights movement is encouraged
• Patient and able to maintain composure in stressful situations
• Reliable and dependable
• Good animal behavior and observation skills
• Able to work outdoors in all weather conditions, including cold/wet weather (average low is 35F) and hot summers (average high is 95-100F)
• Ability to lift 50 pounds and perform strenuous/manual labor
• Ability to work well with a variety of people
• Strong communication and listening skills
• Ability and willingness to follow detailed instructions and meet time sensitive demands
• Ability to learn and process new information quickly
• Team player and self-motivator, comfortable working on own
• Committed to Animal Place’s mission and a desire to be a part of the Animal Place family
• Willing to work on weekend/holidays/varying shift times
• Valid driver’s license and good driving record (subject to verification)

Job Duties

Daily cleaning duties and maintaining the shelter areas
Re-stocking feed, straw, and supplies
Completing animal feeding shifts
Assisting caregivers with basic animal health care
Monitoring animals and reporting animal health concerns directly to Animal Care Manager and/or Director
Supervising and assisting in the training of interns and volunteers

Hours/Days: 40 hours/week, full-time, five days a week, 8hr days, days off and shift times vary, evening hours required in the summer months; schedule subject to change anytime, required to work weekends, required to work most holidays

Salary: Based on experience
