Food for Thought Shelter Report Card
Curious about how much your local animal shelter really cares about animals? Check out this Shelter Report card from our Food for Thought program. It’s a working list of animal shelters across North America that ranks the animal-friendliness of their menu policies for events and fundraisers.

More than 1,000 animal organizations are ranked from A+ (Formal Vegan) to F (No Policy or No Response) so their communities can see exactly where they stand on compassion for farmed animals as well as companion animals. Ethical animal rescues and shelters are increasingly adopting plant-based menu policies to align with their missions and address critical public concerns such as environmental sustainability and human health.

Food for Thought has reached out to organizations in the following regions —

US Chesapeake: DE, DC, MD, NJ, PA, VA;  Great Lakes: IL, MI, OH, WI;  New England: CT, MA, ME, NH, NY, RI, VT;
West Coast: CA, OR, WA; CANADA  AB, BC, ON.

Advocates: After filling out our Advocate Signup Form, and reviewing our Advocate Toolkit, please feel free to contact your local groups on this list that do not have policies or have not responded to let them know that you would like to see them move to a more animal-friendly menu policy. We offer a printable “I did not attend your event because you served animal products” e-card, as well several memes available for sharing.

Organizations: If you already have an animal-friendly menu policy in place, or would like help moving toward a more animal-friendly policy, email us at foodforthought@animalplace.org.
