Dear Supervisors:

We are writing to request that you use your authority to condemn the cruelty occurring at wild cow milking events at Rowell Ranch.

Cattle are prey animals by nature. A chaotic rodeo arena with a screaming audience is an extraordinarily stressful environment for these docile creatures. Being chased on horseback and violently brought to a halt by a rope around the neck is not only frightening, it’s dangerous. Severe neck injuries involving cattle roping rodeo events are not uncommon by any means. In fact, in 2014, the Rowell Ranch’s wild cow milking event ended in tragedy when a terrified cow broke her neck and had to be euthanized.

In addition to being stressful and dangerous for animals, the wild cow milking event is simply distasteful. As public opinion surrounding animal welfare issues continues to evolve and shift into a more progressive light, more people find such events to be distressing and upsetting rather than enjoyable.

Impressionable children who attend rodeo events with their families can become insensitive to animal suffering, learning that it is acceptable to disregard an animal’s wellbeing for our own entertainment. As animal advocates and rescuers, we firmly believe in teaching compassion, not apathy, to both children and adults. We hope that you feel the same, and will do the right thing by protecting vulnerable animals from senseless and unnecessary cruelty.

Sincerely,

 < YOUR NAME>

  24. Eileen Hennessy says:

Words quite fail me after witnessing a video of the barbaric and offensive wild cow milking “contest” that occurs in a rodeo in your district. It is shocking that such extreme animal cruelty is not only sanctioned but considered “entertainment” for the family, including impressionable children who are being taught that abusing cows is acceptable behavior. Terrorizing defenseless, sentient beings is shameful and must never be supported. I dare say the helpless victims of this brutality are not having any fun. Please use your authority to put an end to this archaic and cruel rodeo event as it has no place uncivilized society. There are myriad other ways to celebrate without putting the lives of animals at risk. Thank you for your serious consideration of my comments on this most urgent animal welfare issue.

  25. Gwen Nolte says:

It is absolutely wrong, and cruel, to use the poor cows for cheap entertainment. This ridiculous event should be canceled forever.

  26. Choral Eddie says:

Time to consider the animal rather than yourselves and teach the children that animals have feelings, families, and can feel pain just like you do. Wake up to the realization that being cruel and inhumane to animals does not speak well of your of grown people. It seems you all have a lot to learn, so be creative and find more compassionate ways to bring people and animals together.

  27. JOHN PRYBYLSKI says:

WHEN DO PEOPLE START TO REALIZE THE CRUEL HARM CAUSED TO THESE ANIMALS…ALL FOR THE SAKE OF …WHAT A FEW LAUGHS…??!!!! THERE ARE OTHER WAYS TO RAISE $$$ IF THAT’S WHAT THIS IS ALL ABOUT..WITHOUT TORTURING HELPLESS ANIMALS…!!! THINK ABOUT IT … PUT YOURSELF IN THEIR POSITION…!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  28. Rebecca krida says:

I was shocked and felt light headed when I read about this situation! So sad for the animals. They are not loud or angry! They are seeet animals that defend on people to care from them,

  29. Please consider ending the cruel and inhumane wild cow milking events.

  38. erin palmer says:

    Please stop this practice!

  39. Cindy LaBella says:

PLEASE BAN WILD COW MILKING. What a stupid thing to do anyway, but it’s cruelty to animals just for sport, which is despicable. Thank you.

  40. Grace Neff says:

Some people seem to think animals have no feelings of pain and suffering, or even worse don’t care!!

  41. Mary sicoli says:

Please do all in your power to stop the barbaric practice of wild cow milking. It is not a good experience for the cows or the participants. It glorifies harming innocent animals and encourages apathy to animal pain. Use your god-given conscience to stop this.

  42. Mark Cimino says:

    This is disgusting.

  43. Alfredo Kuba says:

Rodeos are the most stupid and cruel events in the world. Why do we continue to allow stupid people to commit barbaric acts of cruelty against docile, domesticated, helpless animas? These most stop! It is long over due.

    • Julie Attard-Thio says:

      Agreed, Alfredo!

    • Exactly! You make very simple but well made points. Why on earth do we feel it’s okay to look the other way towards cruelty of animals…and for “entertainment”? It is beyond understanding, and shows how inhumane we truly are as a society.

    • Heidi Taylor says:

      Stop hurting cows

    • You are absolutely correct.

Don’t cows have a stressful life producing milk without the extra stress of a contest?

  46. Kathy says:

This is not entertainment!Annimals are not for human entertainment!Enough is enough!!!!!!

  47. Julie says:

What selfish, horrible person thinks scaring animals for human entertainment is okay?

Do the right thing… end rodeos where animals are scared and get hurt! Find entertainment that doesn’t hurt other animals…

  48. Really disgusting…have some compassion and stop this atrocity

  49. There is nothing entertaining about animal harassment and cruelty…anyone that enjoys this has some serious issues they need to deal with…cruelty of any kind is never okay…

  50. Cindy Tattoo Artist says:

    Stop the torture

  51. Please stop the cruelty! This is unconscionable & morally reprehensible.

  52. kay schmitt says:

The practice of milking cows as part of the rodeo act is new low for animal abusers- Rodeos should have been outlawed by now for the usual abuse of animals they reval in, but adding ‘milking’ the poor cows, already in distress is unconsionable. Give hit up- this is a ‘burn in hell’ activity…

  53. Marilyn Milewski says:

  91. Tim Wuthier says:

let us choose to move on from the cultural trope of abusing and killing animals for “sport”. if this activity is actually sport, then sport is a wasteful, destructive practice in all its forms. if the competition between near equals set within rules established to minimize harm is sport, then hurting animals cannot be sport.

  92. Linda Gruber says:

Can you say archaic?! We evolve and stop these stupid out of date events that people that didn’t realize how cruel they were because they didn’t know better should now realize how awful they are! Stop the cruelty! They want entertainment, milk the men that want to participate in these awful events. I’m sure if they try long enough it might happen..

  94. Denise Leach says:

That is so beyond disgusting! Really worries me what other horrors these people are capable of inflicting on those who can’t defend themselves.

  95. Julie Attard-Thio says:

This is absolutely unacceptable to harm and terrorize cows, or any other sentient, FEELING, being on the planet!…Rodeos are extremely cruel and barbaric and need to be outlawed!…I cannot comprehend how some, “humans,” view the torturing, terrifying and murdering of innocent animals as “entertainment”??..It is WRONG and needs to STOP NOW!!

  111. Patty Schanski says:

I can’t believe this kind of savagery is still legal in this day and age?! We ban cock and dog fighting but it’s ok to treat a sensitive sentient animal this way? Sickening.

  112. Please stop this horrible practice. How can this be condoned as entertainment when it involves animal abuse and cruelty? Animals feel fear and pain just as much as we do.
All animals are a critical part of the worlds ecosystem and deserve our respect and gratitude for the part they play in keeping our world balanced. Allowing this is just whittling away at our increasingly precarious environment.
Please stand up for the importance of just letting animals exist and be what they are here to be.

  113. Why in the world are people being cruel to cows? There is no point in that!

  114. What is wrong with people that we have to be so cruel to domestic and wild animals????? Rodeos and circuses with animals should be outlawed. Pig chases, dog fights. rooster fights, dog and horse racing. These animals were not put here for our gambling pleasure. Bad enough that we raise and harvest them to feed ourselves. At least humanely killing for human food is quick.

  115. Kathleen Y Drury says:

    Rodeos should be banned.

  116. patricia says:

This is not entertainment. Stop these events asap!

  117. Kathleen Gallant says:

please stop this and all animal cruelty in rodeos and elsewhere it inhuman we. are so much better than this

  118. Thank you for stopping this cruel practice!

  119. BRENDA MACY says:

Cruelty at it’s best…let along that cows milk is meant for the baby cows not for humans…stop eating and drinking dairy…you won’t regret it.

  120. Please stop this horror! What is wrong with people to abuse their fellow creatures like that? Why would anyone want to torture peaceful, defenseless animals? Unless you’re a psychopath you can’t possible condone this!

  121. Jean Warp says:

Rodeo in all its forms is nothing more than animal abuse. Those who participate in any way have a very sick idea of what constitutes fun.

  122. Deb Cross says:

Why is this still happening? It was grotesque, cruel and inhumane years ago and we have supposedly moved into an enlightened age where people do not condone violence to animals! They are not ours to use and abuse! Please stop doing this!

  123. Rodeos are for profit animal abuse. They should all be closed down. They should try and earn a living by not torturing animals. The cows feel physical and emotional pain just as humans do…..

  124. Bryn Del Mano says:

Wild Cow Milking? Wrong on SO many levels.

  125. Marian Carter says:

“…terrified, unhandled cows are chased on horseback, roped, and milked…” This is disgusting. That we feel the need to torment any creature for our entertainment is disgusting, and a sad commentary on our so-called “civilized society”.

  126. Why are we so cruel to all animals no matter what breed!!Man kind since beginning of the world has destroyed so much, not thankful for what have on earth. This makes a better human?

  127. Sheila Gill says:

please USE YOUR AUTHORITY to CONDEMN THE CRUELTY OCCURRING at WILD COW MILKING EVENTS @ Rowell Ranch!!!!

  128. Michelle S says:

A progressive county like Alameda should condemn and not even consider these type of cruel events. Pls shut down all rodeos in Alameda County and be a role model for the state. #standupagainstcrueltyalameda #banrodeos #cowsdeserveprotection

  129. Why are humans so cruel?

  130. Sharon says:

This horrific cruelty to mother cows must end now. My Hope Is that one day soon you will awaken from your simple-minded lifestyle and realize the cruelty you’ve inflicted on animals and people.

  131. Elisabeth says:

Who finds this to be amusement?

  132. Why are humans so cruel to defenseless animals for the name of sport? Stop the madness you fools, and think about the poor animal. They do feel pain and cry just like humans when they are hurt and punished for being animals.

  133. Lois Robin says:

This cow milking-under-extrme-stress plan is as cruel , heinous and heartless
as anything I’v heard lately. NOOOOOO. I cannot believe such an udderly sadistic plan has been conceived.
One who has generously provided milk.

  134. Get a life…try milking yourselves through your dicks !

    • Spencer Warren says:

These rodeos tormenting docile, helpless cows are cruel and barbaric and only the ignorant and stupid can enjoy them. Public opinion is evolving toward an understanding animals are feeling, sentient creatures who know fear and pain. Cows are terrified in these sadistic events.,Whc are to the shame of every participant and spectator. I urge you to ban them now.

    • Martha Kelem says:

      Stop the cruelty!

    • Jan Nelson says:

      Love it.

    • MARLENA G TZAKIS says:

Debbie, I don’t know you personally, but I already love you, and your response on here!!! I say this all the dam time!!! Amen gfriend!

    • Right on, sister! Your comment is totally appropriate & I had to laugh
out LOUD. In times like these, we all need to do that more.

    • Phyllis Gorman says:

The terror these poor lactating cows are made to suffer would be enough to interrupt their milk supply for good. Disgusting.

    • It’s 2021 and some states and counties are behaving in backasswards fashion. So hic-like and so unfair to the animals. Find another way to amuse yourselves and not use animals. You’re cretins if you don’t.

  135. I was very glad to see that finally some organization spoke out against all rodeos and I would like to add bullfights should be banned as well.
Please help in eliminating thIs barbaric human behavior towards these docile animals.
    With many thanks,
    Maja de Verse.

  136. Where do they get these poor animals? Who do they belong to? Start naming names. Perhaps that could make those people think twice before handing them over for entertainment. And what happens to them afterwards? I was totally unaware of these events. People are so cruel. We need to start making lists and putting their names in the newspapers. Just like they do when people do unlawful things. They get their names in the newspaper along with their criminal act.

  137. Carole Battaglia says:

Rodeos are ridiculous. These “men” for some reason must prove their manliness by hurting and harming innocent animals. These types of events should be stopped. All beings have feelings and can feel pain. Please help to put a stop to these horrible events.

  138. Stephaney Lloyd says:

Any “event” that frightens and tortures timid animals like cattle is beyond entertainment and fully creates the idea that ignorance of animal feelings is something to be promoted. It particularly teaches children who attend the rodeo to think it’s okay to hurt animals for entertainment. Please cancel the milking wild cows exhibit, both for the sake of the animals and what purposeful cruelty teaches.

  139. Catherine says:

Please condemn and end this horrible event. Animals should not be treated this way and used for amusement. It is cruel and inhumane.

  140. Why are so many still stuck living and thinking like Neanderthals? Get a hobby or a job that is ethical and doesn’t exploit sentient beings. These ignorant people don’t realize that this is not a sport and they have absolutely no skills one should be proud of. Miserable and unhappy people like company. This is why they feel good being evil to other beings for no reason. Those with the power to stop such evilness have to step up and get it done. It’s 2021 – It’s time to EVOLVE.

  141. Wild cow milking events are inhumane.Find another form of entertainment

  142. Lydia J. Boerio says:

This is a heartbreaking. Please reconsider this event. Sweet, docile cows don’t deserve to be a “participant” in this nerve shattering, physically harmful “game”. Please leave the cows alone.

  143. Deepak Vohra says:

    Stop this evil

  144. Sister Bernie Galvin says:

Enough cruelty in the world! EnoughC!

  145. Marcia Kellam says:

I wonder about the human species, which gets so much thrill and enjoyment out of exploiting and abusing animals. Where does that come from? I’m glad to be living at a time when, despite the sadness it brings, it seems like a movement has begun to recognize the abuse and also, more importantly, to bring it to an end. Along this line of thinking, I hope that these, what seem to us to be benign acts of fun, are finally stopped. Our fellow animals deserve to be treated with kindness and respect and love.

  146. Joy Brown says:

Really stupid and mean for the poor cows. Doesn’t man do enough horriable things to living creatures as it is ?? Please STOP allready !!!

  147. Linda Singer says:

This is a cruel and totally unnecessary activity. It should be banned along with other rodeo events that are stressful and frightening to animals who have no choice in the matter. Do the right thing and stop this event immediately.

  148. Linda Taylor says:

This is absolutely absurd, cruel, dangerous and mean. This is not a sport it is animal cruelty.
Please man up and cease this immediately.

  149. Diane Vandiver says:

I absolutely condemn this atmosphere of man-handling, wrestling cows to the ground, and after traumatizing and brutalizing them…milk them?? Who in the world thought up this sick, depraved, inhumane, and cruel “event”? I am beyond the point where “good ole boys” have their fun at the real expense of docile, unwilling, and non-aggressive animals. Grow the hell up dudes! Stop this half- cocked so-called “sport”. Men need to find something else unrelated to the abusing of animals to show their “manhood”.

  150. Laurie Vallens says:

Cruelty to animals for any purpose is wrong, but for entertainment? That’s sadistic machismo & Should be prohibited.

  151. Julie Eckdahl says:

I hate this rodeo crap!! Do you really need to entertain yourself this way? Its old and needs to stop.

  152. June Ann Vearling says:

When will humans stop torturing animals because they think it is fun. This isn’t fun it’s barbaric. Cows are such gentle creatures that this must terrify them.

  153. Maureen Rifkind says:

This is not a game to enjoy. It’s time u cancelled this horrible show of hurting and causing anguish for the cows! This is terrible to show children that u can hurt innocent animals and enjoy it! It is just like the stupid Romans who loved seeing people and animals get hurt and die in the coliseum. I thought we were better than that but I guess it’s true that humans r the most violent animals on this earth! Stop this act against the cows! People don’t think it’s wonderful!

  154. Jacqueline Eckert says:

Please use your authority to stop wild cow milking events at Rowell Ranch. It is both silly and cruel.

  155. Ralph Billick says:

Please go look for yourself and watch the cows and how terrified they are. And after watching tell me it’s necessary. They can come up with something that doesn’t involve animals to show their prowess at ridding a horse ❗️🇺🇸

  156. Jan Nelson says:

How does anyone think this is ok? Put yourself in the terrified animals’s position thinking they are going to die and have nowhere to escape to. Please stop torturing animals for entertainment, it’s just plain wrong.

  157. Carmen Nunn says:

Stop this menacing and abuse of cows.
Act like civilized human beings; fake it until you make it!

  158. Linda Steele says:

Animal cruelty needs to be stopped this is not a sport. This is not a spectator sport. Shut it down now.

  159. Delores Archuleta says:

Please quit abusing these wild cows in milking contests!

  160. Nylene says:

Poor Cows. What is wrong with people?

  161. Lori says:

I went to their website. Is there a name in particular I can address this letter to?

  162. Cows deserve to live a good life just like any being. They are giving you something of theirs and ask for nothing in return so you could at least show them kindness.

  163. Janet Martucci says:

    Dear Supervisors:

I am writing to request that you use your authority to condemn the cruelty occurring at wild cow milking events at Rowell Ranch.

    Sincerely,

    Janet Martucci

  164. Mary Christy says:

Please help end this and all cruelty to helpless animals

  165. Jill Peterson says:

It’s unbelievable that these cruel sports (rodeos, etc.) still exist. These people need to get a life.

  166. Suzanne Keeffe says:

Please use your authority to condemn and end these cruel practices that harm innocent creatures…

  167. MARY GARDNER says:

    STOP THE CRUELTY!!!

  168. Cameron Orton says:

    MONSTERS!!!!

  169. Diania Kelley says:

    Despicable! Inhumane

  170. Louise Snider says:

I agree w/ comment by Debbie Hagstrom!

  171. Janet Bernath says:

Please leave them at peace. Stop the exploitation!

  172. Joseph & Lynn DiBlanca says:

    Just STOP IT!!!

  173. Louise Snider says:

    Get a life.

  174. Heidi Ketler says:

Humans who enjoy partaking in the cruel treatment of animals as a form of entertainment are evil. There are so many more satisfying things to do for your time and money.

  175. Please use yoir authority to stop this barbaric and inhumane so-called entertainment.

  176. Larry Benvenuti says:

Enough of the human cruelty to innocent animals !

  177. Hilda Estrada says:

    Please end this horrible barbaric
    Abuse on previous animals.
    Its inhumane and UNCIVILIZED.
    Animals are suffering they’re not
    For people’s entertainment.
    ENTERTAINMENT????
    FIND SOMETHING CONSTRUCTIVE.
    THANK YOU

  178. Ginger Thompson says:

Stop the wild cow milking. This is horrifying!

  179. Ann Baker says:

Rodeos are nothing but animal abuse that is done for the sole purpose of entertaining some stupid and/or cruel “humans.” Please do not cater to these horrible people. Surely, there must be some type of entertainment that does not involve cruel, animal abuse?

  180. I grew up on a ranch doing these kinds of things but now I KNOW IT IS CRUEL and SENSELESS !! Please use your power to STOP this KIND OF CRUEL ACTIVITY !

  181. Georgia Yount says:

I don’t understand how people classify terrifying and sometimes injuring animals as entertainment. I feel so sorry for animals, that have no choice in the matter, being used in this way.

  182. Louise Snider says:

    I agree w/ Debbie. Get a life.

  183. Amy Tiger says:

    This letter works for me.

  184. Holly Rose says:

This is a sick excuse for “entertainment.” There’s something especially heinous about making a sport our of getting milk from an animal. Who came up with it, anyway? Kind of gives ammunition to people who think cowboys aren’t too smart. You should rethink this!

  185. les collar says:

it is bullshit to treat an animal this way.

  186. Amy B says:

Cows are gentle, peaceful, innocent creatures. Stop this sick, disgusting abuse of them and of the horses as well.

  188. Janice Schenfisch says:

    Hello Supervisors,

Please stop Wild Cow milking it is very cruel and unnecessary!

    Sincerely,

    Janice Schenfisch

  189. Barb says:

This is embarrassing to even think humans are capable of this kind of horrible behavior. How would you like this to happen to your wife, mother or daughter? Not only should animal activists be protesting, women’s rights activists should be as well.

  190. Alexandra Neary says:

    Please stop the cruelty.

  191. Louise says:

    Stupid event for stupid people.

  192. One would hope that as a species humans have progressed beyond this cruelty. Please show that this is so in your case.

  193. julia knaz says:

  196. Louise Snider says:

    I agree w/ Debbie!

  197. Lisa Kauhl says:

This is appalling and disturbing. I am disgusted by the way some humans treat animals. PLEASE stop these cruel and abusive activities!!!!!

  198. Lori Koon says:

    Dear Supervisors,
Please stop the cow milking contests at Rowell Ranch. Using animals, that give their lives for humans in this cruel way is heinous. We must respect their need for safety and some comfort in their lives. We can rise above our worst demons and treat all life with respect.
    Thank you,
    Lori Koon

  199. Joannel says:

Anytime you scare, frightened, harass, hurt, disrespect, abuse an animal and say it’s a sport or entertainment is untruthful! If you look in your own heart and soul and know God is your heart and soul then you would know that God is all hearts and souls and you wouldn’t want to do anything but help them and care for them and want the best for all of Gods great creatures – Entertainment is NOT hurting a Soul – It will never be entertaining to watch another suffer!! God bless us all –

  200. Please cancel the Wild Cow Milking and other similar events as this represents animal cruelty and shouldn’t be considered as entertainment at the animal’s expense.

  201. Heather DeMartino says:

Please stop this cruel torture of these scared animals. It is not entertaining.

  202. Adding insult to the already injured!! Can you get any lower than that?!

  203. Louise Snider says:

    Pathetic! Get a life!

  204. Please stop sponsoring this horrible display of cruelty to animals.

  205. Kim Kane says:

What a bunch of idiots to do that to animals. Why is this even legal?? It is animal abuse.

  206. Anne Gaynor says:

These rodeos are cruel to the point of being evil!!!! No intelligent, sensitive person would have anything to do with them!!!!!

  207. This horrible practice needs to stop.

  208. Tolú Tahmassbi Bieberach says:

It is heartless, vile, evil, disgusting, perverse and should be stopped!!!

  209. Jaime Perez says:

Rodeo is the most inhumane form of “entertainment” ever! Cowboys are braindead morons who think it’s macho to abuse innocent animals. Rodeos need to be banned!

  210. Tina Arnold says:

I went to a rodeo in Wyoming as a tourist about 20 years ago. It literally made me sick to my stomach and I had to leave the grounds. That event turned me into an animal lover and an animal rights advocate. Such unspeakable cruelty toward living, breathing creatures. I don’t know how anyone with an ounce of compassion can support rodeos.

  211. Tina Arnold says:

I attended a rodeo in Wyoming as a tourist about 20 years ago. It literally made me sick to my stomach, and I had to leave the grounds. That event turned me into a vegetarian, an animal lover, and an animal rights advocate. I can’t understand how anyone with an ounce of compassion can support rodeos and these unspeakably cruel “milking” events. It’s just heartbreaking

  212. Melissa Myers says:

Please stop this awful inhumane treatment of cows. Rodeos are worse than circuses and it never ceases to amaze me how ignorant and violent Juan brigs are.

  213. Linda Schulz says:

We should be above this abuse by now.

  214. Please have some compassion for the FEAR and SUFFERING this event causes in the cows. These animals are thinking, feeling creatures. This event isn’t entertainment; it’s CRUELTY. It should never happen again.
