Volunteer Barn Cleaner- Animal Care
Barn Cleaner – Level 1, Mentored
Location: Animal Place’s Main Sanctuary, Grass Valley
Objectives: Help animal care staff and interns with farm and animal barn chores
Training and Supervision: Attend Animal Care Volunteer Orientation, reports to volunteer mentor during training, reports to Animal Care Supervisor upon graduation from mentoring program
Responsibilities:
- Daily cleaning duties: learn how to maintain animal quarters for potbellied pigs, sheep, goats, chickens, turkeys, and rabbits
- Maintaining shelter areas: learn what is involved in maintaining the animal care component of a sanctuary (i.e. storing feed, moving bales of straw and hay, doing laundry, sorting produce, scrubbing feed and water bowls, cleaning perches).
Qualifications:
- Interest in working for and with farmed animals
- Reliable and dependable
- Able to lift 20 pounds and perform strenuous/manual labor
- Works well with a variety of people
- Able to follow detailed instructions and meet time sensitive demands
- Able to learn and process new information quickly
- Committed to Animal Place’s mission and a desire to be a part of the Animal Place community
Time Commitment: minimum of two 4-hour shifts per month for three months
Shifts: Mon-Sun, 8:30am-12:30pm, sign up on volunteer mentoring calendar
