What is LEAP?
LEAP (Leaders for Ethics, Animals, and the Planet) is a revolutionary humane education program providing students across the nation with a compassionate alternative to traditional agriculture programs like 4H and FFA. Taught by participating farmed animal sanctuaries, LEAP combines interactive curriculum modules with hands-on learning activities, leadership training, and real-world skill development. LEAP aims to prepare the next generation of changemakers to tackle the challenges of animal cruelty, climate change, food deserts, and habitat loss, and encourages them to devise solutions for a more compassionate, sustainable food system.
LEAP Summer Day Camp Program FAQ and Requirements:
This program is not a form of employment and there should be no expectation of employment with any of the sanctuaries after completion of the program. Participants in this camp program are middle school students who may be eligible to receive a certificate of completion after meeting following requirements during the above period.
In order to qualify, a LEAP camper must complete each of the following:
- Campers must complete a full week (five sessions) of programming onsite, including LEAP curriculum sessions, hands-on workshops, and other hands-on activities at their designated Sanctuary.
- Campers must respond to requests, in the form of short surveys and exit interviews, for feedback about the program.
- Campers understand and agree to learn about sensitive topics regarding animal agriculture and exploitation, and view materials such as but not limited to documentaries, articles, images, and personal anecdotes about animal abuse, mental and physical harm, and neglect.
- Campers must agree to be photographed and video recorded during their time in LEAP and have said photos, videos, interviews, and quotations shared to the website, social media channels, print materials, and blogs of LEAP and participating sanctuaries.
The above are the baseline requirements to receive a certificate of completion from the program. To get the most out of the camp, LEAP campers should be active participants in all sessions, contributing to discussions, asking questions, being willing to lend a hand, and being respectful of all other campers, non-human animals, staff, and volunteers.
If you have any questions about the LEAP program, please email [email protected].
