Donating cryptocurrency to Animal Place is a simple way to turn digital gains into meaningful impact for farmed animals, and possibly avoid capital gains tax.
If your crypto has increased in value, donating it directly to our sanctuary may let you avoid paying a capital gains tax you would incur by selling it and claim a tax deduction based on the crypto’s full market value.
To make giving simple, we’ve partnered with FreeWill. This secure Crypto donation tool automatically notifies Animal Place of your gift intention and allows you to donate your crypto, name a gift intention, and request a tax receipt.

How are crypto donations processed?
Donated crypto assets are received by FreeWill’s affiliated 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization, FreeWill Impact Fund (EIN: 86-1218871), which maintains cryptocurrency exchange accounts with Coinbase and Gemini.
Once donated crypto is received at the provided wallet address, FreeWill Impact Fund automatically converts it to USD and emails the donor a receipt for the donation.
FreeWill Impact Fund then issues a cash grant to Animal Place, subject to FreeWill’s grantmaking policies and procedures.
What cryptocurrencies can you accept?
FreeWill has integrated with Coinbase and Gemini, so we can process donations for any cryptocurrency when you use the secure tool above.
