Meet Luca: A Young Volunteer with a Big Heart for Animals

Luca came to us through Bitney Prep High School’s unique internship program, which offers students hands-on experience in various industries. Luca’s great care for his fellow creatures sparked his desire to help animals. After hearing about Bitney Prep student Molly’s experience interning with Animal Place, Luca had been waiting to turn 16 so he could finally intern with us as well.

In just a few months, Luca has melted into everyone’s hearts, not least of which is Cypress the turkey, for whom Luca built a special wooden house! But the love goes both ways. “Snuggling with creatures being part of my job is the coolest thing ever,” Luca gushed. If pushed to choose, Luca’s favorite animal resident is Radcliff the rooster, whom Luca lovingly calls “little man” due to his small size. Luca’s most memorable moments at Animal Place are when he helped Lulu, the potbellied pig, get a pedicure. “She threw quite a fit,” Luca recalls. “It was hilarious and very stinky.”

“Everyone at Animal Place is awesome. They’re all super kind and make me feel really welcome! A lot of the animals have been through absolutely horrific situations, and I’m really happy they are here now.” – Luca

When not volunteering at Animal Place, Luca enjoys playing Dungeons & Dragons and being in nature, where he feels most at home. Thank you for being you, Luca! We are so grateful for your genuine love and compassion for our animal residents and can’t wait to see the bright future that’s ahead of you.
