Don’t Let “Save Our Bacon” Sneak Back Into the Farm Bill

The dangerous Save Our Bacon Act was left out of the Senate’s Farm Bill draft, a major win for animals. But Big Pork and its allies are working to force it back in.

This industry-backed provision would wipe out state laws that protect farmed animals from extreme confinement, including California’s Proposition 12 and Massachusetts’ Question 3. These laws keep mother pigs out of gestation crates so small they can’t turn around, and they protect egg-laying hens and calves raised for veal.

Voters passed these laws. Congress shouldn’t erase them.

The Farm Bill is still being negotiated, and your senators need to hear from you now. Tell them to keep the Save Our Bacon Act out of the Farm Bill and reject any attack on animal protection laws.
