Mamas and Babies Need Food!

I was chatting with our animal care director, Meg, about the goats and sheep we took on from a cruelty case in December and how far they have come. I was especially impressed by how much weight they’ve gained, including sweet Krista, a senior LaMancha goat with tiny ears and a soulful expression.

Meg agreed, then dropped a shocking bit of information: Krista and friends have eaten through 20% of our annual feed budget in January alone! Yikes!

Our permanent residents get most of their nutrients from grazing, so we only supplement hay as needed. But Krista had spent months at a place where she never received enough food. She and her friends needed to have free access to hay at all times.

In January, we spent more than $3,000 to feed Krista, along with her 34 goat and sheep friends.

After hearing that, I knew I had to reach out to you for help. I have a rather lofty goal, but I think it is worth a try!

Here’s the goal: Let’s raise $6,000! 😅I think we can do it. 🙌

This would cover the hay already fed out to Krista and friends, and allow us to buy more hay to keep everyone fed.

🌾Your $25 donation feeds Krista and her friends their morning hay! 🌾

And now that Paulette sheep and Nikki goat have both given birth, we will need to ensure they have extra food to keep weight on and feed their babies!

Right now, the feeders are stocked in the morning and late afternoon. In January, the crew ate $100 worth of food each day! Now that they have gained weight and several have been placed in forever homes, they are eating between $50-75 worth of hay a day. Progress, right? 😅

🌾Your $50 donation feeds Krista and her friends for a day! 🌾

We never expected such high feed costs when we agreed to welcome Krista and company. At the same time, saying no wasn’t an option. When a cruelty case of this magnitude happens in our own backyard, we have to help.

And I knew we could say yes, because of you. You are the reason Meg can sign off on a $3,000 feed bill. You are why Krista gained more than 20 lbs since her arrival. You make it possible for us to help Nikki and Paulette through their pregnancies and births.

With you, anything is possible.

I know the goal I’ve set is a lot to ask. If now is not a good time for you to give or you simply are unable to, please know I – and everyone here – understand. Send Krista and her friends love, and consider sharing our fundraiser with your animal-loving friends. ❣️
