Since its inception in August of 2010, Animal Place has rescued, rehomed or provided permanent refuge to: 24,690 hens, 229 roosters, 36 goats,  25 turkeys, 11 sheep, 10 pigs, 4 ducks, and 24 pigeons.  (As of 8/1/2017)

2017

July 29 – 1 rooster, misidentified as a hen after being attacked by a dog
July 27 – 1 rooster, dumped in neighborhood and rescued
July 15 – 1 duck, 1 rooster abandoned at shelter
July 3 – 2,000 hens from a battery cage farm
June 28 – 1 rooster, dropped off at shelter after being saved from a ritual slaughter
June 27 – 1 goat saved from slaughter
June 14 – 1 rooster, found abandoned at a park
May 13 – 1 goat from a local shelter
April 19 – 4 king pigeons from a shelter
April 12 – 1,000 hens from a pasture-based egg farm
March 31 – 8 hens from a private home
March 18 – 2 hens from a private home
March 9 – 14 hens from a private home
March 7 – 1 naked neck hen, eventually transferred to Grass Valley permanent sanctuary
March 7 – 1 potbellied pig from a shelter, dropped off because guardian could no longer care for

February 3 – 1 hen and 2 roosters from a shelter
January 24 – 2 hens from a private home
January 19 – 4 hens from a private individual who could no longer care for them
January 13 – 1 hen from a local animal shelter

2016

November 15 – 1 1-yr-old hen whose mate was killed by a mountain lion
November 1 – 9 roosters abandoned behind a feedstore
October 22 – 3 hens from a woman whose mother died
October 21 – 2 roosters left abandoned in a coop
October 13 – 1 sheep from a shelter
September 29 – 1 sheep left tied to a flagpole
September 7 – 2 potbellied piglets from a shelter
September 1 – 1,650 hens from a battery cage farm
August 26 – 2 roosters
July 30 – 1 duck, 1 rooster, 2 hens, 4 king pigeons
July 29 – 1 rooster
June 3 – 1 goat from a local animal control agency.
May 31 – Five rooster chicks a volunteer rescued from a feed store. The roosters were used as packing peanuts to keep hen chicks warm…the store was giving them away for free.
April 29 – Beardsley the Ameraucana rooster, abandoned alongside a highway.
April 21 – Silkie rooster in need of rescue
April 3, 2016 – 1,310 hens from an egg farm.
March 11, 2016 – 744 hens and 6 roosters from egg farm.
March 7, 2016 – 6 pigeons
February 14, 2016 – 6 roosters confiscated from a cockfighting operation.
January 22, 2016 – Intake of Bob, a 6-yr-old goat from Fremont Animal Services.
January 21, 2016 – Shaun, a 10-yr-old Suffolk wether arrived to adoption center.
January 20, 2016 – Bart, a large rooster, who had spent the last few months at one of our Flock Partner shelters arrived to our adoption center for placement.
January 8, 2016 – Butterscotch, a terribly de-horned Boer mix female goat arrived to adoption center. She was a stray that a local shelter saved.
January 6, 2016 – Welcomed a Barbados (former) ram to adoption center. Aries was a former 4H animal.

2015

December 26 – Intake of 6 rescued pigeons.
December 18 – Intake of 3 juvenile roosters from a private home.
December 10 – Intake of 1 male goat, Lucas, from a shelter.
November 20 – Intake of 2 female goats Luna and Chanel, rescued from 4H.
November 7 – Rescue of 200 hens, 4 roosters
October 18 – Intake of 4 roosters
October 6 – Intake of 2 roosters from shelter.
September 29 – Saved 508 hens from a free-range egg farm.
September 12 – Intake of 3 hens and 1 rooster from a central California shelter.
September 4 – Intake of 1 rooster from a chick-hatching project.
September 3 – Intake of 1 rooster and 1 hen from local shelter.
August 17 – 2 goats rescued from a central California shelter.
August 22 – 4 pigeons from Palomacy Rescue
August 5 – 1 rooster from Sacramento County Animal Care and Control.
July 23 – 1,525 hens rescued from cages at an egg farm.
July 21 – 1 rooster saved from slaughter at an agricultural university
July 9 – 2 hens saved from a live market
May 30 – 3 roosters, 3 hens, 1 chick, abandoned at local shelters.
May 14 – 2 goats, rescued from a dairy that planned on slaughtering them
May 1, 2015 – 1 rooster, abandoned at shelter
April 11, 2015 – 1 rooster
April 7, 2015 – 2 stray female goats rescued by local animal control
April 4, 2015 – 1 rooster rescued from a cockfighting bust.
March 2015 – 2 roosters
February 2015 – 1,500 hens from battery cage egg farm
January 2015 – 185 hens from battery cage egg farm
January 2015 – 24 hens and 5 roosters from pasture-based egg farm going out of business

2014

December 13 – 10 bantam hens and 4 bantam roosters.
November 24 – 1 hen and 1 rooster from a hi-kill shelter.
November 4 – One goat from a shelter.
September – Three roosters, 1 hen from local animal shelter.
September 4-5 – 2,035 hens from a caged egg farm in California.
June 5 – 23 chickens rescued from southern California shelters. 14 hens rescued from a cockfighting operation. 6 New Hampshire Red crosses rescued from a transport truck that was shipping them to slaughter (4 hens, 2 roosters), 3 hens abandoned by a backyard chicken “owner”.
June 4 – 4 goats from dairy farm.
June 3 – 3 roosters confiscated by Yolo County Animal Services and SPCA from a fight-bust.
May 27 – 1 goat, 1 sheep found running loose
May 1 – 249 hens, 4 roosters arrived from free range egg farm.
April 30 – 1 goat from Los Angeles shelter that rescued him from a hoarder
March 21 & 28 – 1,100 hens from an egg farm going out of business rescued!

2013

July 28-29 – 3,000 hens from a battery cage egg farm rescued!
April 1-2 – 750 hens from a battery cage egg farm arrive!
March 1 – 166 hens from an egg farm arrive!
February 20 – 2 goats from a 4H farm arrive
February 15 – 2 goats from Santa Cruz shelter arrive
February 4 – 3 hens rescued from neglect situation
January 9 – 1 rooster transferred to sanctuary from shelter

2012

December 9 – 2 goats abandoned at sanctuary
November 28 – 1 goat saved from a neglect case
November 10 – 1 duck rescued from a meat farm
October 14 – Transferred 50 roosters from a southern California shelter to another sanctuary, took in 7 roosters
September 15 – 8 goats saved from a burned property
August – 6 turkeys from a breeding farm rehomed to another sanctuary
February 23 & 24 – 4,460 starving hens rescued from an egg farm. Of those, 4,100 came to Animal Place’s Rescue Ranch. All adopted.
February 11 – 7 hens 4 roosters rescued from an abandonment case. Adopted.
January 16 – 1 rooster rescued. Adopted.

2011

December 8 – 372 hens from an egg farm rescued. All adopted.
November 30 – 97 hens from a prison egg farm are rescued. All adopted.
November 26 – 3 sheep rescued from slaughter at a local farm. Rehomed to another sanctuary.
October 30 – 2 piglets and 2 goats rescued from a petting zoo that planned on sending them to slaughter. Piglets are permanent residents at our Grass Valley sanctuary; two goats adopted.
September 14 – 281 hens and 6 roosters from an egg farm. All adopted.
September 7 – 26 hens rescued from a closing egg farm. All adopted.
August 16 – 225 hens from an egg farm arrive ready for new homes. All adopted.
August 10 – 2 ewes saved from predators after they were abandoned in the Oakland hills arrive! Adopted.
August 4 – Nineteen turkeys used for breeding and slated for slaughter.
July 18 – Five pigs confiscated from a cruelty case hang out for ten days and are happily transferred to another sanctuary.
April 26th & May 7 – 581 hens rescued from an egg farm. All adopted.
March 30 – 395 hens arrive from egg farm. All adopted.
February 25 – 356 hens seek shelter from egg farm. All adopted.
January 18 – 115 hens bust out of a prison egg farm. All adopted.
January 15 – 75 hens from egg farm are rehomed. All adopted.

2010

September 9 – 140 hens, roosters, chicks rescued from hoarder. Many adopted; several die from diseases acquired from the hoarder, some are permanent residents at the sanctuary.
August 5 – 250 hens, most with embedded leg bands, are rehabilitated and adopted. Most adopted, some are too severely injured to be rehomed and remain at our sanctuary and others.
