Theodore is a Holstein, a breed used for milk. As a male, he held no value to the dairy farm – he could not become pregnant and produce milk.

A backyard slaughterer bought Theo directly from the farm and confined him to a backyard in urban Sacramento, CA. Unhappy with his situation, Theo busted out and ran into a neighbor’s yard. That neighbor called Sacramento City Animal Control, who confiscated brave little Theo. His “owner” signed over custody and Theo found his way to sanctuary at Animal Place.

Theo is a tall, nerdy bovine. He often prefers spending time by himself or simply observing the other cows. As he has matured, he has made attempts at challenging Murphy to duels. Murphy, being a kind and gentle leader, allows this and mildly rebukes Theo.

If you would like to spare animals like Theodore the pain of being separated from their mothers and facing cruelty, the easiest way to do it is to go vegan. Both dairy and meat industries exploit animals, break up families, are unconcerned with giving nonhumans the respect they deserve, and kill animals at small fractions of their natural lives.

We have a handy Humane Eating Guide you can receive; all you need to do is cover the cost of postage. Our Guide fits in your wallet and suggests commercially available alternatives to animal flesh, dairy, and eggs.
