Welcome Wilma the Pig

Welcome 6-mos-old piglet Wilma to the Animal Place family.
Raised as part of a Future Farmers of America (FFA) agricultural program, Wilma faced being sent to a terminal county auction. That is the fate of many animals raised as part of 4-H and FFA.
The student was unable to find a buyer and wanted to find Wilma a forever home.
Wilma arrived Friday evening (3/19/2021). She is recovering from a respiratory infection. For the next two weeks, she will spend her time healing. Then, she will head to the veterinary hospital for her spay surgery.
Animal rearing programs that require sending animals to slaughter teach children to shutter their empathy for and kindness towards animals.
When we can, we offer a safe haven to animals from these programs, whose caregiving students have had a change of heart…all so these individuals can be free for life.
The student has to agree not to participate in any future animal-raising programs.
We encourage students who participate in 4-H and FFA to seek out non-animal-raising projects.
If you would like to donate toward Wilma’s spay surgery, visit our Facebook fundraiser here.
