Come stay with us! Rub pig bellies, feed treats to chickens, hang with the bunnies, and enjoy the scenery and recreation in the beautiful Sierra Nevada foothills of northern California (Grass Valley, California).

Animal Place’s picturesque Guest House offers a unique experience, reasonable rates and a chance to meet the amazing rescued animals who call Animal Place home!

Animal Place’s Guest House (next door to the sanctuary) is 6.5 miles from downtown Grass Valley, 8 miles from Nevada City, and a short drive from the Yuba River, local, and state parks.

Want to bring a group? The Guest House is available to host your getaway with friends, reunion, or business/organization retreat. Let us help you plan an overnight, weekend, or even week-long stay that your group will never forget. We can accommodate groups of 6 to 10 people.

The Guest House is family friendly, people of all ages are welcome to stay!

About Your Stay

All guests have access to a shared fully equipped kitchen, parking, WiFi, television with DVD player, board games, cards, dominos, and more. At this time we do not provide toiletries so please bring your own. (Out of respect for the animals, we ask that you bring cruelty-free and vegan soap, shampoo, toothpaste, and other necessities.)

Your stay includes a free modified 30-minute guided tour where you will meet 1-2 species of animals. A private, 2-hour guided tour is available for an additional fee of $75 and includes meeting 4-6 species of animals.  Please be sure to select the “full guided tour” option when booking your stay.

Contact us for discounted rates for stays longer than four nights, or groups of six or more.

Rates:

Our Bob Goat room features two bunkbeds. Wilbur Pig and Bob Goat’s guests share the home’s main bathroom. Rates from $75 per night.

Our Wilbur room features a King Bed with rates from $170 per night.

Our Shelby Cow room is a master suite equipped with a king size bed, twin size day bed, private bath, mini fridge, microwave, and coffee maker, with rates from $200 per night.

Rent the entire Guest House (three bedrooms, two bathrooms, maximum 10 guests): $750

Faq's

Can I rent the house?

Yes! The Guest House is three bedrooms, two bathrooms, and sleeps up to 10 adults. The rate is $750 per night. See our calendar here and click “Daily-Rentals” to view availability.

Can I rent a room for privacy?

Yes! You can rent the Wilbur Pig room or Bob Goat room for $150 per night, or the Shelby Cow room with private bathroom for $200 per night plus $20 per additional guest. Private room rentals are unavailable during themed retreats. See our calendar here and click “Daily-Rentals” to view availability.

What is your cancellation policy?

We understand emergencies occur and will do our best to accommodate you. Cancellations must be made by email or phone to [email protected] or 530-477-1757 ext. 204. Your cancellation must be confirmed by Animal Place in order to be refunded. A full refund is available if your canceled reservation is more than 7 days prior to check-in. A partial (50%) refund is available if you cancel four to six days prior to check-in. Due to limited space and resources, we cannot issue a refund if we receive your cancellation 72 hours or less before your check-in.

What time is check-in/check-out?

Check-in is between 3:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. Check-out is by 11:00 a.m. If you need an early or late arrival/departure, let us know in advance and we’ll try to accommodate it.

Is there cell coverage at the Guest House?

Cell coverage is limited at the Guest House and sanctuary. Verizon has the best coverage. If you are able, enable WiFi calling.

Are children allowed at the Guest House?

Yes, all ages are welcome at the Guest House.

Are companion animals allowed at the Guest House?

To ensure the safety, health, and comfort of guests and resident farmed animals, dogs, cats, or other companion animals are not permitted at the Guest House or sanctuary.

Can you accommodate someone with food allergies/sensitivities?

Probably! Please contact Claire at 530-477-1757 x 204 or [email protected] to discuss your dietary needs.

Can I bring my own food?

Yes! The Guest House has a fully equipped kitchen for your use. Out of respect for the animals, all food brought to the Guest House and Sanctuary must be vegan (without meat, fish, dairy, eggs, or animal by-products).

Can I bring my own alcohol?

Yes, you may bring your own alcoholic beverages to the Guest House. The Guest House and Sanctuary do not provide alcohol on site.

Are all the bedding, pillows, and toiletries vegan and cruelty-free?

All bedding and pillows provided are vegan, and made of animal-friendly alternatives to wool and down such as cotton, hemp, flax, and synthetics. At this time we do not provide toiletries so please bring your own. Out of respect for the animals, we ask that all toiletries be cruelty-free and vegan.

Since Animal Place is a nonprofit, is my Guest House stay tax-deductible?

No, although we are a nonprofit, and welcome donations, by staying at the Guest House you are purchasing goods/services from us. Consult a qualified tax preparer in your state for further advice.

How do I get to the Guest House?

 For driving directions click here. Public transportation is unavailable, so we recommend renting a car, especially if you plan to explore the local area. Airport shuttles are available from the Sacramento airport and cost about $85 one way. The closest bus station is about 10 miles from the sanctuary. The closest train station is in Auburn, about 20 miles from the sanctuary.

Can I park my RV at the Guest House?

Yes, but we do not offer water, power, or sewer hookups at this time. Please contact us for more information or to make a reservation.

What is the weather like in Grass Valley?

Temperatures are generally mild. In the summer, the average daily high is 90-95 F. In the winter, the average daily high is 57 F. For more information, visit Weather.com.

What if the weather is too bad for a tour or other outdoor activities?

Guest House visitors are welcome rain or shine, unless conditions are deemed dangerous by staff (you will be notified). If weather is a concern, please contact us directly.
